Pitching: As a certified Biomechanics Specialist my job is to get each player to their goals as quickly and as safely as possible. I teach many of the elements that Brent Pourciau from TopVelocity.net teaches, and Tom House from the National Pitching Association (NPA).
Hitting: Drills will be utilized to break down each component of the swing so that the player has a consistent and powerful swing.
Video analysis will be done with both pitching and hitting so that the player can see exactly what he is doing. Several different training tools will be utilized.

C.A.N.I’s primary mission is to help our players reach their fullest potential. We do this by creating a safe, fun, and competitive environment for our players to succeed. We teach our 5 pillar CLASS model for success both on and off the field:
Character- responsible, respectful, and have self-control
Leadership- support and encourage each other
Accountability- holding our players/parents to a higher level
Skills- being proficient at these skills to improve their game
Strategy- learning the mental side of the game and life
Championships are nice; however, the most important goal is helping our players get better. We believe in trusting the process over the results. Players in our program focus on their skill set development. They also develop the concept of being “baseball smart” which is understanding the flow of the game and instantly reacting instead of a coach telling them what to do. We believe that success is no accident. It’s hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.
Brian Wasko (Owner/Coach/Trainer)
Brian first became interested in sports at 5 years old when his dad signed him up for baseball. He enjoyed the competitiveness of the game and constantly striving to improve himself to become better and better.
Brian went to Des Moines Lincoln High School where he continued to excel in baseball and football where he obtained several All Conference honors. In between these two sports he ran track as well.
After graduating high school Brian went on to attend St. Ambrose University where he played football for 4 years. Brian obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Athletic Training and Psychology. Brian is a Certified Biomechanics Specialist (BMS) through NESTA (National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association). Brian is a member of the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) and he is also a USA Baseball certified coach.
His son playing sports provided a great opportunity for Brian to get involved in coaching youth for the past 9 years. He wanted to be involved with his son, but also found enjoyment in helping other kids improve their skills at baseball.
For the past 9 years, each of Brian’s baseball teams have never had a losing season and have always competed at the highest level, even winning a city championship. What makes it unique is that every year Brian has had a completely different team, with the exception of his son.
“I enjoy the challenge of creating a new team each and every year with kids that haven’t played together. Having brand new kids each year and being able to create a winning team, year after year, with very little time to work together before the start of the season has brought tremendous fulfillment to me as well as the parents who have watched their son grow and overcome challenges throughout the season.”
Brian teaches kids the fundamentals of throwing/pitching, hitting, fielding, base running, catching, and overall field awareness and strategy. Brian also teaches one of the least worked on things which is the mental aspect of baseball. Having played the game himself for over 12 years and coached the game over the last 8 years, he has observed several kids, time after time, completely fall apart because something negative happened on the field. “You will fail at this game more than you will succeed. Baseball is a lot like life, when you fail, you need to pick yourself back up and keep going because people depend upon you.”
Brian explains things to kids in a way they can understand. Some coaches have more experience, even minor or major league experience, yet cannot explain things in a way that children can understand. He uses terms that resonate with the player so they thoroughly understand the concept he is teaching them. Prior to each season, Brian reaches out to both player and parent to inquire what they believe needs work.
Brian believes it’s important to have a mutual respect for each other and to take a personal interest in how the player’s life is going outside of baseball. Finding humor and the ability to laugh helps to take the stress off and maximizes learning throughout the coaching session. When pitching and hitting, Brian takes video and shows the player what is going on with their swing, pitch mechanics, etc. “My job is to squeeze out every bit of potential in the player, even potential they didn’t even know they had.”
